- 02As known, Japan has smaller land and doesn’t have longer rivers and bigger lakes than other continents. However, it is surrounded by the sea, which is the best part of Japan. Offshore fishing is strongly recommended. We can arrange a boat and all necessary fishing tools. If you plan to stay in Sapporo or Otaru, boat fishing in Shakotan peninshula would be nice. It’s easy and reasonable. We definitely want you to try Yellowtail or Rockfish jigging at first. This boat fishing is not chartered. Other Japanese anglers are in the same boat. If you prefer chartered, please inform us.
- 03The most exciting fishing is casting for Bluefin tuna, and followed by dolphinfish and yellowtail. If you can spend your days joining this exciting fishing, please let us know. You’ll have some other options such as casting and bottom fishing for chum salmon. You can catch cod, flounder, masu salmon as well.

- 05What we highly recommend is salmon fly fishing using boat in Shiretoko in August. The boat boat takes you to an island from an island looking for a good spot. Shiny pink salmons actively bite flies. Hopefully, you can catch 10 salmons or more by fly casting. It doesn’t mean it goes everything well, but as far as we know, this trip has a lot more chances to fish salmon with less stress. You can get some ideas from Stephanie’s fishing report, who worked with us last summer. When we went on this trip, our customer Paul tried fly fishing at first, but figured out that he could catch them by changing to spin fishing with bait, after he accepted guide’s suggestion. Paul caught lots of salmon eventually. We’ve already known that we’ll have a lot of pink salmon in the environment. You are lucky because you now know it. Our guides’ schedules are still available. The best season in Shiretoko is for only a month. So book now!
- 06Unfortunately saying this, but number of salmon in Hokkaido is drastically decreasing past two years. Few salmon returned to Churui river in 2017. We were very disappointed with it. It is predicted by relevant organizations that the similar situation will happen in 2018 as well. In 2017, surf casting brought us the best result and No result in Churui river.
- 07Our recommendation is boat fishing in Shakotan peninsula. You can expect good catch. We can pick you up at JR Otaru Station. You can eat fish you catch as sushi. Even if you don’t have a company, we will run the trip (minimum 1 person). Adding to this, if you like trout in fresh water than that in sea water, we are happy to guide you to fish pond in Sapporo city. BBQ is an optional. This trip will be available from two people. Or if you can rent a car and come to Niseko, float trip will be available as well. This is the same rates and very reasonable for a group or family up to 5 people.

- 09We recommend Okhotsk sea and Southern Hokkaido. Both areas have more chances to catch larger salmon called “4-year-fish” which return from the ocean to their native water with four years cycle. Besides, good fishing time in both area is different, so you can enjoy chum salmon fishing for a long time if you like. You can go bottom fishing in Okhotsk sea with a boat from Sep. 1 to Sep. 20, and if spin cast fishing in surf, chance is mid Sep. to beginning of Oct. In Southern Hokkaido, last week of Oct. to mid Nov. is good if casting from a boat. And if you prefer fishing in river outlet, the good time is from the last week of Oct. to the end of Nov.
- 10There are some areas and different periods. First of all, float fishing is marsh in Eastern Hokkaido during Mar. to May and Shiribetsu river during June to July. Surf casting is Southern part in Mar. and Apr., Tokachi from the end of Apr. to mid May, and Southern part in Dec. and Jan. Finally, Shiribetsu river in June and July and Tokachi from mid Sep. to mid Oc. If river casting.
- 11We strongly recommend Northern Hokkaido in Oct. and Nov. Following, marsh in Eastern Hokkaido in Mar., Apr., Nov. and Dec. It might be a smart way to schedule Northern part in the end of Oct. and if the weather turns bad, area will be changed to Eastern part. We can adjust the schedule depending on the weather. Please ask us for details.

- 13Yes. Some rivers and lakes are “too popular”, and too many anglers visit to those places. So you will not expect good fishing. The information posted in internet is mostly relevant to above. “Lake Akan” and “C & R area in Shokotsu river” are good examples. If you want to meet more Japanese anglers than to enjoy fishing, it will be nice. But we will guide you to areas we really want to show you.
